October Monthly Report

News on cafeteria/vending machines ?

Currently, we have around 2394 students in this year’s secondary cycle, about the same as last year’s. Hopefully in the future we’ll be able to increase the amount of classes from 81 to 87 to help combat overpopulated classes. The situation with the food trucks is currently a bit complicated. Instead, a potential room has been identified to sell sandwiches, essentially just a new cafeteria. For the vending machines, the APEE run them so we have no direct control over that. We are well aware that the contents of the aforementioned machines are either empty or of bad quality and expensive. We’ve notified Mme Sciberras of this already so only time will tell if anything changes.

P6-P7 lunchbreak for Eurosport/clubs ?

Sadly, this scheduling cannot be changed due to the time allocation of teachers. Generally, S6 and S7 students share the same classes and therefore the same teachers (yay for lack of resources). This separate lunch break helps with decreasing the amount of conflicting classes. The main problem is that students with a p7 lunch break get less time to eat in the cantine overall, with about 45 mins rather than 1 hour. Another thing that has been brought is that classes in p6 are explicitly stated to start at 13h. So some teachers who are not aware of this already should be told about it.

S7NLA No lockers ?

They got lockers now.

Names of the buildings ?

As y’all prob know, we did a survey about this subject (renaming the buildings after famous individuals) like a few months ago. In the end, we received mainly the names of French men, showing clear gender imbalance. This subject has become quite challenging but we do have an outline of what is wanted: gender balance; nationality; retaining the original name of the building in the first letter of the name (e.g. Curie for the C building). Currently, there hasn’t been enough time to be dedicated towards this endeavor and the names we already have aren’t too well known.

The board ?

The board was changed and the teachers are now visible at the bottom of the screen. That’s obvious already and y’all probably don’t need this.

Microwaves ?

Microwaves are a very touchy subject. They are tools of destruction that can lay waste to buildings upon their insertion. Other than that, microwaves are kind of dangerous, so the school wants to control/limit the amount available. We do have a microwave outside of the canteen, but this isn’t very efficient as students are usually not close by and there’s only one. More may be added later but this is not a guarantee (maybe where the cafeteria used to be like before?)

Can’t sit by radiators students need hot places to sit?

On the topic of radiators, a lot of them don’t work so you should inform Mme Hector if you find a malfunctioning one. As you would most likely know, a window fell onto a table during school hours last year. Thankfully no pupil was present at that bench so no injuries. All the windows have already been inspected by the Belgian government (as they own the building) and will replace all 2400 windows. Now we are just waiting for the delivery and installation of the needed components, such as chains and alarms.
